The chairs … Read more A refined set of six late 19th century French Louis XVI style dining chairs, sourced in Provence, France. The chairs retain their beautifully aged painted surfaces and woven cane backs, with natural patina and wear developed over time. The chairs have been structurally revised and newly upholstered in a hand-printed Peter Fasano linen, featuring a geometric diamond motif in green, metallic gold and soft lavender-gray. The same linen has been used as a tailored trim around the cane backs, thoughtfully integrating the new upholstery with the original frames. Tall rectangular backs are framed by slender fluted uprights crowned with carved finials. Floral rosettes punctuate the corners, while beaded and leaf-tip borders continue around the frames. Tapered fluted legs and balanced neoclassical proportions give the chairs an elegant, architectural presence. The pale painted finish has softened beautifully with age, with areas of rubbing, subtle tonal variation and traces of the wood beneath. The existing surface was intentionally preserved, allowing the character and depth acquired over more than a century to remain visible.
