Description
A charming vintage California miniature oil painting by Jean Bowler depicting the iconic Golden Gate Bridge spanning San Francisco Bay.
Painted circa 1980, this intimate coastal landscape captures one of America's most recognisable landmarks beneath a bright Californian sky. The bridge stretches elegantly across the composition, its distinctive warm orange-red structure contrasting against blue water, distant green hills and softly painted clouds.
White sailing yachts animate the bay, while seabirds circle above and rocky shoreline details provide depth to the foreground. Despite its diminutive scale, Bowler creates a remarkably complete panoramic landscape through confident brushwork and carefully controlled perspective.
The painting is particularly appealing as a decorative accent because of its compact proportions. It would work beautifully within an eclectic gallery wall, displayed on a small easel, arranged on a bookshelf or cabinet, or incorporated into a collection of vintage Californian and coastal artwork.
The reverse retains the original printed studio label reading "Original Art by Jean Bowler, Orinda, California", providing an important connection between the work and the artist's San Francisco Bay Area studio.
Presented in its original gilt wooden frame.

Design & Decorative Appeal
The Golden Gate Bridge has become one of the defining visual symbols of California and twentieth-century American design.
Bowler's miniature interpretation combines the strong architectural geometry of the suspension bridge with the softer natural forms of the surrounding coastline, water and hills.
Its gilt frame and jewel-like proportions give the painting the character of a small cabinet picture, making it particularly suitable for interiors where individually collected artwork and layered decorative objects are used to create visual interest.
