A richly detailed late 19th century gilt bronze shallow dish in the Grand Tour tradition, cast with a central classical mask surrounded by an elaborate border of scrolling foliage, mythological figures, and playful putti. The low-relief ornament has wonderful depth, with the aged gilding settling into the recesses and emphasizing the sculptural quality of the casting.
At just over six inches across, it is an ideal small-scale decorative object for a library table, dressing table, or console. It works beautifully as a catchall for rings, coins, or keys, though the imagery and warm patina give it enough presence to simply rest among books, bronzes, and other collected Grand Tour objects.
