Authentic Japanese Kakiemon polychrome porcelain shallow dish, Edo Period (c.1680–1720), Arita kilns. Features rare "Leaping Hare" (rabbit) & scrolling cloud border in underglaze cobalt blue & iron-red. Center medallion displays a flowering prunus tree in vibrant overglaze iron-red, green, & light blue enamels. Reverse rim has 2 mirror-image foliage sprays.
Definitive Proof of Antiquity:
- True hard-paste vitrified porcelain body fired at ~1,300°C; cannot craze, preserving the pristine white ground naturally.
- Base features 4 distinct pinpoint kiln spur marks left by ceramic stilt pins during firing.
- Displays minor historic kiln grit on the rim and 1 organic glaze pop from old wood-fueled kiln production.
- Exceptional thick enamel preservation; safely stored as a luxury heirloom cabinet piece.
Mark: Stylized underglaze blue square "Fuku" (Good Fortune) commendation mark in double rings.
Size: 8 5/8" diameter x 1.25" tall. Scalloped foliate rim intact. No cracks/restorations.
