The … Read more A robust French Empire walnut commode from the 19th century, topped with an incredible slab of Saint Anne marble. The dark stone of monochromatic gray shows dizzying movement among the veining, patinated along the squared edges with small flakes. Making up the body of the piece are three large drawers using brass knobs of ornate motifs to slide easily though no key is present for the locks. A divided top drawer is a particularly smart feature for organizing clothing, linens, and other household items. The drawer fronts highlight the subtle grain patterns that walnut is prized for to give the piece a sense of warmth and familiarity blending with the patina from daily use. Columnar pilasters on each side are emphasized by brass capitals in Neoclassical motifs rising from thick, cylindrical feet. Cleaned and polished with a French paste wax, ready for your interior. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos.
