This large square work depicts an atmospheric city or harbor skyline beneath an oversized glowing sun, rendered in a rich palette of ochre, amber, brown and olive with small accents of orange, yellow and white.

The skyline is built up with expressive brushwork and palette-knife detailing, giving the architecture an almost illuminated quality against the hazy background. Reflections extending beneath the skyline add depth, while the loosely rendered foreground gives the composition a distinctly period Modern feel.

This is an original hand-painted work on canvas rather than a print or reproduction. The surface retains visible canvas texture, brushwork and applied paint throughout. Signed R. Styles at the lower right.

Presented in its original-style slim black frame with a narrow warm gold metallic accent, which complements the painting without competing with it. Its substantial 37-inch square format works especially well above a credenza, console or fireplace and would be an excellent addition to a Mid-Century Modern, California Modern or contemporary interior.
