In the Mid to Late 1800s there was an acceleration of innovation and advancement in shoe making and repairing shoes. These included machine methods of sole attachment—especially wooden pegging, metal riveting and nailing, the McKay chainstitch sewing, and the emerging Goodyear welt system. These were the “latest” and most up-to-date techniques for shoe repairing in the mid-to-late 1800s. And that's what this cobbler's unique hand painted wood sign is advertising!
It's proudly stating in bold letters: THE LATEST SYSTEM OF UP TO DATE SHOE REPAIRING. The Top portion is in simple black letters but then the rest is in a combination of salmon-pink and black accent. It's a stunning piece of graphic. Simple yet gorgeous and unique. A little double scroll flourishing completes the angled bottom half of the statement.
It's a marvelous addition to any serious sign collection, and great piece for anyone that loves shoes.
The cobbler of this sign must have been proud of his advanced knowledge and expertise.
