Finished in a sophisticated palette of turquoise, lavender, blush, and celadon tones, the work exemplifies the artist, Janet Mazor, exploration of the relationship between sculpture, textile traditions, and ceramic form. The dramatic scale and intricate surface articulation transform it from a functional object into a compelling sculptural statement.

This is a superb example of contemporary American studio ceramics influenced by the works of noted American ceramic artist Gail Markiewicz

Hand built textured and carved ceramic pocketbook. A whimsical yet sophisticated piece to display. Unique One-of-a-KInd as no two pieces are the same.

The artist manipulated the clay with textures and carvings & combines textures and carvings into a patchwork clay quilt and makes it into a sculptural form—an invitation to caress and admire.

Each piece takes several weeks to make due to the multi-step process. First, the clay must be rolled out from pieces of clay and imprinted with textures into each individual piece. These are then "stitched" together with clay slip so that they begin to form a "quilt." Finally, the ceramic sculpture is shaped by the parts into a sculptural vessel. Many colorful glazes are applied at different firings.
