The Title is "Small Flowers and Golden Pheasant" (小花に金鶏鳥, … Read more Fine elegant 4-panel byobu (folding screen) by Japanese artist Kokei (光径). The Title is "Small Flowers and Golden Pheasant" (小花に金鶏鳥, where 金鶏鳥, "Kinkeicho", refers to the "Golden Pheasant," which is a species of pheasant known for its beautiful golden feathers. Signed and sealed by the artist. Very well done. Gouache, watercolor and ink on gold-leaf style foil plates over paper. Silk brocade border. Lacquered brown wood frame with beautifully engraved copper corners, plaques and medallions, showing some age patina. Paper on back. Comes in a carboard storage case. Eight newly made black metal hooks for easy installation are included. This screen was hand made and hand painted in Kyoto, Japan, in the 1990s, Heisei Era.

Excellent to Nearly Excellent condition - no damage to the painting nor back; minimal age wear overall; one small not noticeable repair on the edge of the first panel (image #16); one chip on lacquer of the right edge of frame, not visible from the front (image #17); some tanning on paper back, strong hinges, clean, sturdy. This byobu was kept for few decades in Kyoto Art Center for preserving design patterns.
