Kinetics "Paperclip" Bar Stool, Model K700, Canada, 1970s
An enduring icon of Canadian modernist design, the K700 "Paperclip" bar stool by Kinetics is celebrated for its sculptural simplicity and ingenious engineering. Originally designed in 1969 by Hugh Hamilton and Philip Salmon, the stool is formed from a single continuous length of tubular chrome steel that loops seamlessly into its unmistakable paperclip silhouette, creating both the cantilevered frame and integrated footrest. The minimalist design has remained in continuous production for decades, a testament to its timeless appeal and functional elegance.
This example features the highly sought-after polished chrome finish with a matching chrome seat, giving it a striking architectural presence from every angle. The clean lines and reflective surface make it an ideal addition to Mid-Century Modern, Postmodern, Industrial, or contemporary interiors, equally at home in a kitchen, bar, loft, or commercial setting.
A true design classic, the K700 balances visual lightness with exceptional durability, making it as practical as it is collectible.
