A French art deco lantern made circa 1930. A high-quality nickel-plated solid brass or bronze mount holds a large shade by the glass factory EJG (Ets. Jean Gauthier). This model is done in clear frosted molded-pressed glass. Well executed thick glass. It exists both in a clear and in an enameled colored version as well as in three sizes. The one on this pendant light is the medium sized one which is 25 cm high (9,8") with a diameter of about 7,28 inches. And a weight of over 1,6 kilos. These EJG shades are never signed. The fixture has the foundry marks CP on the inside of the canopy. I was not able to find out which lighting firm used the CP initials. But it made beautiful well-made fixtures.
The pendant has a height of 49,5 cm (19,49 inches). It is in excellent condition. I re-nickeled the mount and the fixture is rewired with an American standard socket.

Jean Gauthier had his first workshop at 12-14 rue Jean Robert in Paris and later expended with factories in the town of Ezanville. In the early days just after the first world war Gauthier made cameo shades that were sometimes signed Gauthier. The plants in Ezanville were opened for the production of art deco glassware in molded-pressed glass. Many art deco models are unsigned. Some are signed EJG for Etablissements Jean Gauthier. Others are signed J.Robert pseudonym for J.Gauthier based on the street name of the first workshop. In the 30s Gauthier started a line of shades done in opalescent semi-crystal, mainly cups. Some models are unsigned. Others are signed EZAN France, signature for Gauthier based on the city of the second plant. See less
