The painting depicts a seated figure wearing a white head covering and robe, rendered with expressive brushwork and layered tones of umber, ochre, olive, cream, and black. Luks was associated with the Ashcan School and The Eight, a group known for direct, character-driven scenes and a painterly approach to modern life. This portrait reflects that style through its loose handling, strong facial study, and focus on human presence. The painting is signed in the lower right and set in a gilt with brown frame with a linen liner. It is in good condition with visible and minimal wear from usage. See less
