Crafted in France circa 1920, the rectangular basket is handwoven with natural willow or rattan in a warm honey tone, showing wonderful age, patina, and variation throughout the weave. The piece features a sturdy rectangular body with rounded corners, raised short feet, and a tall arched twisted oak handle wrapped with additional woven strands for strength and visual interest.
The open basket form makes it both decorative and practical, ideal for holding firewood, linens, magazines, dried flowers, or market produce. The woven construction includes an attractive mix of tight horizontal weaving, open sidework, and a reinforced braided rim.
