Pair of grand 12 arm candelabras ordered from Charles Christofle, Paris, for a family wedding as part of a royal table setting. These are "800" silver plate on heavy bronze and circa 1830. They were designed by Mallet with ornamentation by Mathurin Morreau and Carrier - Belleuse, Paris. These feature exceptional ornamentation, highlighted by the lively opposing images of the putti.
Mathurin Moreau (1822–1912): A celebrated French sculptor who studied under Jean-Baptiste Jules Klagmann and won numerous medals at the Paris Salons. Moreau is well known for his figurative sculptures, allegorical works, and fountains.
Louis-Robert Carrier-Belleuse (1848–1913): Often associated alongside his father, Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse. Louis was a talented sculptor and painter who designed many putti and decorative elements for Charles Christofle.
Léon Mallet: A French designer and silversmith whose compositions and designs for metalwork and centerpieces frequently integrated sculptural figures.
At the time of Turkish and Russian peace treaty, the entire service of 42 boxes was sent to the Crimea by camel for the signing of the peace treaty between the Turks and the Russians because the Sultan had nothing which was proper for the occasion.
These were exhibited at the Minneapolis Institute of Art from 1966 to 1968. Of grand scale and perfect proportion these measure Height 34 inches, With 18 1/2 inches, . The bases measure 12 inches by 10 inches. Included are well made wooden storage boxes.
