A striking pair of vintage matching recessed medicine cabinets manufactured by General Bathroom Mfg. Co. of Chicago, Illinois, dating to approximately late 1950s. These feature elegant long oval mirrors framed in white and antique gold with a raised floral border, reflecting the Hollywood Regency and French Provincial influences popular in upscale American homes of the period.
Unlike standard builder-grade medicine cabinets, the decorative mirror extends well beyond the recessed cabinet, giving each piece a much more furniture-like appearance. This was a higher-end feature found in many upscale homes and custom bathrooms of the late 1950s and early 1960s.
Each cabinet retains its original adjustable acrylic shelves with the complete set of original metal shelf supports, allowing the interior storage to be configured as needed. The recessed steel cabinets are embossed with the original General Bathroom Mfg. Co., Chicago, Illinois manufacturer’s mark.
These cabinets would be equally at home in a period restoration or incorporated into a thoughtfully designed powder room, primary bath, dressing area, or other interior where authentic mid-century architectural elements are desired.
