This piece closely matches the iconic styles produced by Murano glassmakers in Italy, specifically designed by Gio Ponti for Venini, during the 1950s and 1960s.
The decanter features vibrant, alternating vertical ribbons, or canes, of cobalt blue and fuchsia/amethyst pink. These colors beautifully bleed and distort together when viewed from certain angles, giving it a rich purple appearance.
This design is achieved using the traditional Venetian “a canne” cane technique, where colored rods of glass are fused together and then mouth-blown into the final shape. The swirl pattern visible at the base of the bottle showcases the twisting motion the glassblower used before flattening the bottom. It features a matching "bullseye" spherical glass stopper that fits seamlessly into the flared rim of the neck.
