A handsome 19th-century oil on canvas depicting an atmospheric river landscape with a stone bridge, wooded banks, distant hills, and a solitary figure seated along the water's edge. Executed in a rich palette of greens, browns, and soft blue-grey tones. The painting displays well with a pleasing warm, decorative presence suitable for traditional, English Country, or collected interiors.
The painting appears to be signed "D. Lawrence" (or possibly "D. Laurence"). The reverse retains a partial paper label for James Jackson, Carver, Gilder, Printseller and Artists' Colourman, 66 George Street, Perth. According to records of the National Portrait Gallery, Jackson occupied the George Street premises from approximately 1866 to 1890
