The lower body appears unglazed and deeply combed in an all-over pattern that recalls sheaves of wheat, scratched through a dark slip to reveal the warm clay underneath. Up top, a glossy amber-brown glaze takes over, pooling around the collared rim.
Pick it up and you can feel the maker's hand in it — the ridges of the combed texture under your fingers, the slight variations left by the wheel. It's the kind of piece that reads as handmade the moment you hold it, not just look at it.

Stands 7.5 inches tall by 4 inches wide, in glazed and unglazed stoneware.

There's an impressed mark on the bottom, but it isn't legible enough to identify a specific maker, so this is listed as vintage studio pottery, maker unknown. It's in good vintage condition with light wear consistent with age — see photos for close detail on the glaze and texture.
It came to us from a Nantucket estate with a real eye for handmade, artisanal work.
