One of our star finds of 2026; an original signed oil on board painting of woman with guitar. The cubist execution is exceptional here, bringing a fresh modern take on the legendary style. And behind the frontal visual is strong bones and a spiritual foundation; two important factors for a lasting work of art. Yes it's very pretty on the front end, but its structure is quite remarkable. This mystery artist, whose name we are yet to decipher, was not a novice apprentice. So though the work and its style stands on the shoulders of masters before it, it also stands original and succeeds in being its own masterpiece.
Let's also speak of the frontal visual, or what Picasso would call the prettying of a painting. First, the singular color; Pulling off a single hue in a work of art is always a challenge; especially with a dominant color like red. There's so much of it yet it's remarkably comforting. Second, the figure's size is the star and focus of the painting; and it's all executed to perfection. Taking apart a human body and reassembling it in an abstract way is one of the hardest things to pull off. You need to have mastered drawing before you can do this. The third and last thing is the overall balance. Here we check off all the boxes for color balance, form balance, and visual weight balance. No one part of the painting distracts your attention, and this also is a sign of a great painter. It all comes together in a singular way.
If we have one criticism it would be about the frame. A better frame could possibly elevate it even more. But this is how we found it and it's a good enough start for now.
