The work depicts a harbor or coastal waterway at dawn or dusk, with multiple gaff-rigged fishing vessels resting on calm waters. The central focus is a large, dark-sailed fishing boat, paired with a smaller rowboat carrying two silhouetted fishermen in the foreground.
The piece utilizes a Tonalist style, relying on a narrow palette of muted ochre, brown, and dark gray tones to build depth. The warm, golden light piercing through the heavy, hazy skies creates a dramatic yet tranquil atmosphere. The soaring seagulls on the right add motion to an otherwise still, reflective seascape.
