Rare Job Ridgway Cauldon Place Compote, Pattern B1154, Newly Discovered Pattern, Circa 1808-1814
A rare footed compote from the Cauldon Place Works of Job Ridgway, Staffordshire, England, circa 1808-1814, pattern B1154. The piece features a molded basketweave and trellis border with a shaped, pierced double-handled rim, raised on a scalloped footed base. The decoration consists of hand-painted mulberry/puce florals, including full-blown roses, rosebuds, and scattered sprigs, over a finely molded relief ground.
This pattern (B1154) has recently been identified as a newly discovered and previously undocumented Ridgway design, making this piece a genuine contribution to the recorded history of early Cauldon Place production. A wonderful acquisition for collectors of early English ceramics or Ridgway specialists.
