This table was found in this condition with small restorations. Notice there are two "tongues" - peg like fittings meant to hold a cabinet securely. The debate was whether to leave the fittings alone or not. They were left as is. It appears from the scratches and imperfections on the table top that people have used the table and left the pegs on. The table top sat on a recessed apron and bridge like stretchers held the tall slender legs that ended in hoof feet in place. The table must have once been elegant with the proportions that please the eye. The style is according to Ming Dynasty designs and was made before mid 19th century. The once rich mahogany lacquer finish was used on furniture from the Jiangnan region of China, the areas of Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Anhui provinces. The table is likely from this region.

The appearance of this table with its its present finish may not appeal to everyone, but it is a treasure for someone who likes the original look of antique Chinese furniture. See less
