Painted in deep, vibrant tones of underglaze cobalt blue, the continuous pictorial narrative showcases a majestic phoenix (fenghuang) perched amidst a rocky landscape, surrounded by gnarled, blossoming plum trees and lush, dense foliage. The reverse side depicts small birds resting on winding branches, balancing the composition. The execution exhibits the spirited brushwork and characteristic heaped-and-piled effect reminiscent of early transitional or late Ming revival styles, while the glaze has a soft, unctuous sheen with fine, age-appropriate crazing.
