Original California coastal oil painting by listed artist Dorothy A. Gordoy, depicting the iconic Natural Bridges formation in Santa Cruz. Executed in a confident impasto technique, the composition captures the rugged sandstone arch and shifting shoreline with sculptural palette knife work and a restrained coastal palette.
Gordoy, active in California and associated with the Sacramento art scene, exhibited during the mid-century period, including participation in regional programs connected to the Crocker Art Museum’s Tuesday Club picture rental gallery. The painting reflects the enduring plein air tradition of the California coast, balancing atmospheric sky with the structural mass of the cliffs.
Presented in a later carved wood frame, the work offers both regional historical relevance and strong visual presence.
