An intricate "pie crust" shaped rim was also added to prevent chipping and ensure longevity. The hand-painted scenery extends all around each vase, unlike some that have unpainted back sides. This complete circular treatment was designed to allow the proud owner to rotate the pieces for a slightly different look whenever it struck the owner's whimsy, and also to present a beautiful reflection when the vases were placed in front of a mirror!
