This Vintage Afghan Maimana Kilim, measuring 6'2" by 7'8", is handwoven with wool on a wool foundation by the Maimana tribes of Northern Afghanistan. Kilims and flat weaves feature no pile, created by tightly interlacing the warp and weft threads to form a flat surface. Typically woven on horizontal looms, this technique yields sharp geometric patterns. Lighter and softer than pile rugs, kilims serve versatile purposes including sofa covers, drapes, pillows, tablecloths, wall hangings, and insulation against harsh cold.
