Embodying sophisticated elegance and sleek aesthetic, we present this spectacular Italian modernist Carlo Mollino (1905-1973) design dining table. After the important original circa 1949 Carlo Mollino designed table, which after decades on display in a Brooklyn Museum, recently sold at Sotheby’s for an astounding $6.2 million dollars.
This most impressive large sized zoomorphic inspired sculptural table features mahogany rib form supports over a saddle shaped pierced maple bentwood base with brass X stretchers and paneled terminal mounted splayed legs, topped with a large thick rectangular glass top.
Note:
A noted architect and designer, Molino designed the now iconic Vertebra table in 1949, which was manufactured as a single unique one-off example in 1950 by Appelli & Varesio, Turin, Italy, and exhibited at eleven major American museums from 1950-1955. The table was given to the Brooklyn Museum of Art in 1954 by the Italian government until its sale at Sotheby's, New York, Lot 16, October 28, 2020, for $6.2 Million. The table offered here is very similar to the only known example with this iconic design.
