This Vintage Afghan Maimana Kilim, measuring 6'3" x 8'4", is expertly handwoven by the Maimana tribes of Northern Afghanistan using a wool-on-wool foundation. Kilims and flatweaves are distinguished by their pileless construction, created by tightly interlacing warp and weft threads to form a smooth, flat surface. Typically crafted on horizontal looms, this method results in sharp geometric patterns. Lighter and softer than traditional pile rugs, kilims have historically served versatile roles such as sofa covers, drapes, pillows, tablecloths, wall hangings, and insulation against harsh climates.
