Crafted in France circa 1960, this four-step ladder is built of solid walnut and features four triangular steps arranged in a graceful ascending spiral around a central turned post.

Each step is upholstered in striped fabric in warm shades of coral, salmon, and cream, adding a colorful contrast to the rich walnut finish. The wooden framework is embellished with turned baluster supports, molded edges, and decorative ring carvings throughout. The tall central post is topped with a rounded finial, while the lower structure is reinforced with curved stretchers and turned crossbars, providing stability and visual balance.

The compact, open design makes this unusual staircase both functional and decorative, ideal for reaching bookshelves in a library, study, or office. The ladder does not fold and retains its original fixed spiral configuration.

The vintage Louis XIII style library ladder is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich walnut patina. The striped fabric upholstery shows some visible staining and minor wear, as illustrated in the detailed photographs. A charming and practical addition to a traditional French interior.
