This vintage Turkish Kilim, measuring 5'7" by 7'11", is handwoven with wool on a wool foundation in the Oushak region of Turkey. Kilims and flatweaves are defined by their pile-free construction, achieved by tightly interlacing warp and weft threads to create a smooth, flat surface. Typically produced on horizontal looms, this technique yields precise geometric patterns. Lighter and softer than traditional pile rugs, kilims have historically been used as sofa covers, drapes, pillows, tablecloths, and wall hangings, providing both decorative function and insulation against cold temperatures.
