At Turtle & Crane, we turn the past into stunning décor for today. This pair of Japanese silk paintings from the 1940s is signed by Ishikawa Kiyohiko and shows a geisha holding a folding fan and a samurai nobleman in a vivid blue kimono. Both are painted in watercolor and ink on fine silk, and each carries the artist's calligraphic signature and a red seal stamp.
The paintings are set behind silk matting and framed in gilt wood. Each framed painting measures 21" wide, 1" deep, and 24.5" high. Painted in Japan, the pair brings color and figure to a Chinoiserie room, and it suits Grandmillennial and Hollywood Regency interiors as well. Hang them side by side on a gallery wall, in a dining room, or in an entry.
