They were traditionally made in the ports of Martaban and Burma and shipped goods to India and the Near East. They also held rice wine at social ceremonies, where sharing a drink brought people together. In Japan, collectors prized the form for storing tea. At 13" wide and deep and 17.5" high, this one has the scale to stand alone as a floor accent, hold dried branches or pampas grass, or sit in a maximalist or Chinoiserie interior as an unfussy counterpoint to gilt and lacquer.

This is an antique and it looks like one. There are minor chips, wear to the glaze, and scratches and abrasions from its long working life. They are honest signs of age and part of the jar's character. It is sold in found antique condition, so please see the photos for details and message us with any questions.
