Crafted in France … Read more This charming antique French jardinière combines the warm character of natural bamboo with delicately hand-painted floral decoration. Crafted in France circa 1920, the rectangular planter is constructed with a sculptural bamboo framework, its projecting rails, visible joints, and four sturdy legs creating the distinctive Anglo-Japanese inspired look so fashionable in European interiors during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The four inset side panels are individually hand painted with graceful floral compositions, including pansies and yellow and white blossoms rendered in soft lavender, cream, green, and golden tones against atmospheric black, grey, and ivory backgrounds. One panel bears the initials “J.R.” The natural bamboo has developed a rich honey-brown patina, while the darker textured lower portions of the legs provide an appealing contrast and reinforce the handcrafted character of the piece.

The jardinière retains its original fitted interior liner, finished in aged green and fitted with small metal handles for removal. Its generous rectangular form makes it especially attractive for displaying orchids, ferns, flowering plants, or a large floral arrangement in a conservatory, sunroom, entry, or living room.

The piece is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, retaining attractive wear, patina, and surface character throughout.
