The serpentine facade carries the same graceful curve through two full width drawers, each framed by hand carved molded cartouches. Shield panels at center hold cast bronze escutcheons, while rocaille bronze pulls grace either side. Below, a scalloped apron unfolds around a carved cartouche wreathed in flowing floral sprays, all poised on cabriole legs ending in scrolled escargot feet.
Even the sides are given full attention, with chamfered framed panels, shaped aprons and cabriole back legs echoing the front, so the commode presents beautifully from every view. Regence design brought soft curves and naturalistic carving into French furniture, and provincial cabinetmakers embraced the style with walnut chosen for its rich color and figure.
Lovely in an entry beneath a gilt mirror, beside a bed as an elegant nightstand, or in a living room or dining room where its compact scale and warm walnut tones add old world charm to traditional and transitional interiors alike.Circa early 1900s
