Early 500 cat tail counter, constructed by hand.
9"W x 2.25"D x 6"H.
This folk art piece was used to track the number of tricks and trumps allowed in the game 500. 500 was a card game derived from euchre and highly popular until the 1920s.
This piece is a in itself a bit of a pun, as the deal of a hand was known as a kitty during this time.
The cats tail moves up and down to indicate the trump suit.
