The wool is shiny, silky, and spun with greater thickness than normal Chinese wool. This type of carpet was born around the 20s on the initiative of Walter Nichols, an American merchant who, having moved to China, opened 1924 a carpet factory designed for the American market, which, while maintaining some classic Chinese decorations, was characterized by their decidedly innovative style. These rugs, born from the encounter between a decidedly Chinese style and the new art of furniture so much in vogue in the West, are characterized by a renewed chromatic taste that ventures combinations of colours never proposed before. The Cascades of flowers on the bottom combined with firm tones are the main feature of this production. The decorative pattern has a symmetrical development in our carpet, and the colourful garlands seem to rotate, floating on the plain light brown bottom. See less
