It is a simple and well-constructed reading piece, the kind found in country homes and music rooms.

Its key feature is its height adjustment. The writing surface slides along the upper part of the pole and adjusts to the perfect height for reading or playing while standing.

The sloping writing surface is edged with a molded strip that holds the book or sheet music in place. It is supported by a sleeve attached to the pole. At the bottom, a cross-shaped base keeps the whole piece upright despite its 1.5-meter height.

It retains its original patina, a deep reddish-brown, with the signs of wear from a good century of use. No particular flaws.

Today, it makes a very attractive music stand, a lectern for a large art book or a cookbook, or a display stand in an entryway. Weighing 5 kg, it can be moved with one hand.
