The cylindrical shade is constructed from eight white lacquered metal panels with rectangular openings and angled internal lamellas arranged around a central light source. The geometric construction creates an interesting interplay of light and shadow, while the layered metal elements diffuse and direct the light, producing a warm, atmospheric glow. The pendant is characteristic of Gernes’ experimental approach to form and function, combining a strong architectural expression with a sculptural, almost industrial aesthetic. A distinctive example of Danish lighting design from the late 1960s, equally appealing as an illuminated pendant or as a sculptural object in its own right.
