Spanish Ceramic Bowl with Green Bird Motif
A Spanish earthenware bowl or decorative dish, painted in green on a cream ground. The shallow circular form has an unglazed terracotta exterior and a glazed interior. At the centre is a freely painted bird with a lattice-patterned wing, surrounded by stylised floral sprays and leaves. Concentric bands of wavy and scalloped green lines decorate the well and the rim, creating a lively, rhythmic border.
The decoration is executed in a spontaneous, folk manner typical of traditional Spanish painted pottery, where simple motifs of birds and foliage were used to ornament everyday and decorative wares. The contrast between the warm terracotta body, the creamy glaze, and the strong green pigment gives the piece a clear, rustic character.
