Luigi Caccia Dominioni Pair of Ambrosianeum High-Back Lounge Chairs for Azucena, 1955
An exceptional pair of Ambrosianeum high-back lounge chairs designed by Italian architect and designer Luigi Caccia Dominioni in 1955 for the Ambrosianeum cultural institution in Milan. Manufactured by Azucena, these sculptural wingback chairs exemplify Caccia Dominioni’s distinctive combination of architectural elegance, comfort, and functional innovation.
The chairs feature gracefully curved high backs, generous proportions, and solid walnut legs. Particularly distinctive are the recessed, D-shaped walnut cutouts on the outer sides of the backrests, framed by decorative brass nailheads. These sculptural details provide a striking contrast to the upholstery while also serving as practical handholds for repositioning the chairs. Original casters on the front legs allow for easy mobility.
Reupholstered in luxurious high-pile mohair, this striking pair represents a fine example of postwar Italian design.
