This is a striking and vibrant matching pair of large "General Jars" (Jiangjun Guan), crafted in the traditional Chinese cloisonné enamel technique.
The jars feature a brilliant turquoise-blue ground that is densely covered in an intricate, all-over wirework pattern of scrolling vines. The main body is lavishly decorated with colorful, stylized lotus blossoms in shades of pink, purple, and blue, intertwined with green foliage. Interspersed among the flowers are dynamic, brightly colored phoenixes (Longfeng) in flight, symbolizing harmony and good fortune.
The jars are further embellished with ornate decorative bands, including a prominent pink and green lappet (ruyi) border at the shoulder and a geometric "Greek key" (meander) band at the neck and base. Each jar is topped with a matching domed lid featuring a bright yellow, tear-drop-shaped finial. The undersides bear an apocryphal six-character reign mark for the Qianlong Emperor in underglaze blue. These impressive, highly decorative pieces are perfect for making a grand statement in a living room or entryway.
