This is an elegant vintage rectangular box, crafted from Zitan wood (purple sandalwood) and decorated with intricate mother-of-pearl (nacre) inlay.
The lid features a recessed central panel adorned with a vibrant shell inlay scene of two birds perched on a fruiting pomegranate branch. The inlay is rendered in shimmering white, with iridescent green and purple accents on the leaves and birds. The border surrounding the central panel is further embellished with delicate, scrolling vine and floral shell inlays.
The box is constructed with traditional joinery and features a circular brass lock plate on the front. The wood displays a rich, dark brown-black tone with a distinct "ox hair" grain texture and a smooth, lustrous patina. The lid fits securely, making it perfect for storing jewelry, small trinkets, or keepsakes.
