This is a substantial and finely crafted vintage rectangular box, made from rosewood (huali wood) with a rich, dark brown finish.
The lid of the box is deeply and intricately carved in high relief with a dynamic scene of a majestic Chinese dragon amidst stylized scrolling clouds and waves. The dragon is depicted with a detailed scaly body, sharp claws, and a fierce expression. The box is constructed with visible, traditional mortise and tenon joinery (dovetail joints) on the corners, adding to its structural integrity and handcrafted appeal.
The front of the box features a circular brass lock plate with a traditional hasp and pin closure. The smooth wood grain is visible throughout, showing a warm, lustrous patina. This elegant box is perfect for storing jewelry, seals, tea, or small treasures, and makes a beautiful decorative accent for a desk, shelf, or dresser.
