This is a striking, large-scale vintage porcelain model of a traditional Chinese pagoda, specifically a Wenchang Pagoda. The pagoda is a classic symbol of academic success, scholarly achievement, and good fortune in Chinese culture, traditionally placed on a desk or in a study.
The piece is crafted with a vibrant, all-over imperial yellow glaze. It features a tiered, multi-story design with an octagonal base, intricately molded details including faux doors and windows on each level, and a pointed finial at the top. The pagoda sits on a stepped, octagonal base that bears an apocryphal six-character underglaze blue mark reading "Da Ming Hong Zhi Nian Zhi" (Made in the Hongzhi Reign of the Great Ming).
The pagoda is designed in two separate pieces (the tower and the base), and the hollow, unglazed interior of the base is visible, showing the natural clay body. This impressive and visually striking sculpture makes a wonderful focal point for a bookshelf, console table, or home office.
