An extraordinary and rare matching set comprising two armchairs of dignitaries and a coordinating table, masterfully hand-carved in monoxyl style (from a single continuous block of dense wood). Originating from the Fon ethnicity of the historic Kingdom of Dahomey (modern-day Benin) and dating to around 1950, this signed ensemble represents a high pinnacle of West African ceremonial artistry. Functioned as dignitary or royal-style ceremonial seating rather than mass-produced industrial furniture.

The armchairs feature powerful symbolic motifs: the lower bases and armrests are sculpted as roaring lions, while the expressive backrests depict dynamic scenes such as an eagle attacking a snake. Accompanied by a matching carved table, this rare suite boasts a gorgeous organic grain, rich deep patina, and stands as both historical museum-quality tribal art and functional, statement-making interior furniture.
