This is a striking and substantial carved lacquer box, featuring deep, intricate relief work in a vibrant, mustard-yellow tone. The circular box and its domed lid are heavily carved with traditional motifs. The top lid is centered with a large, blooming peony flower issuing from a decorative vase, surrounded by stylized scrollwork, ribbons, and auspicious symbols set against a finely textured, dark honeycomb background.
The sides of both the lid and the base are decorated with a continuous, deeply carved geometric meander (fretwork) border, interspersed with floral rosettes, separated by smooth, polished yellow bands at the rims.
The interior of the box is lined with a dark, crackled black surface. The flat, black underside of the base is framed by the yellow carved border. The deep carving and rich color give this piece a striking, sculptural presence. It serves as a stunning decorative accent or a luxurious storage vessel for jewelry and small treasures.

The carved lacquer exterior is largely intact with a bright, deep yellow color and some natural surface wear, minor scratches, and slight fading in the deepest crevices, which adds depth and character. The interior black lacquer shows significant crazing (crackle texture) typical of aged lacquer. The structural integrity of the box and lid appears solid. Please review all photos carefully for a detailed view of the condition. less
