a magnificent pair of majolica vases, conceived and created as mirrored examples to be displayed together, a valuable example of early 20th-century neo-renaissance tuscan ceramic production. The original monogram of the artist, the intertwined initials "cv," referring to vincenzo leonardo corrente, is hand-painted in black under both bases, accompanied by the word "italy." the pair dates back to the 1920s and 1930s and was created in tuscany, in the florentine area, where the artist worked permanently after moving from grottaglie. Each vase, 17.5 cm tall, features a baluster shape with a flared neck and a contoured circular base, a classic form drawn directly from the tuscan renaissance ceramic repertoire. The surface of the central body is entirely decorated with a dense motif of leafy swirls, intertwined plant elements, and finely modeled bird figures in high relief, all coated with a bright, glossy green glaze that illuminates the decoration with vibrant reflections. What makes these vases particularly fascinating is their complex sculptural workmanship: the decorative recesses and the base feature a dark, deliberately porous texture, a carefully crafted "faux-excavation" effect designed to imitate archaeological patinas and the charm of antique 15th-century tuscan majolica, creating a suggestive dialogue between modern execution and historical memory.
