Lange,” framed in a gold stucco molding approximately 10 cm wide; Dimensions: Image size: 65 x 95 cm; Frame size: 84 x 113 cm. Johann Gustav Lange (b. 1811 in Mülheim an der Ruhr; d. April 6, 1887, in Düsseldorf) was a German landscape painter of the Düsseldorf School. Lange studied painting at the Düsseldorf Academy of Art. As early as 1831, he exhibited “a small landscape” there. In 1832–1833, he was a student in Johann Wilhelm Schirmer’s landscape painting class. In Düsseldorf, where his son—the future landscape and poultry painter Fritz Lange—was born, he was a member of the Malkasten artists’ association. Lange was close friends—dating back to his early days at the academy—with the landscape painter Andreas Achenbach, who shared with him his impressions and encounters from his first trip to Italy (1843–1845) See less
