A rare and incredibly characterful antique lidded jar in Scandinavian folk art style (Folk Art), made around the turn of the century 1900. The jar and its accompanying lid are hand-turned from a solid piece of elm, which gives the object a fantastically vibrant grain around the entire object. The jar is adorned with fine, turned decorative stripes along the upper edge and on the lid, which is crowned by a lovely, integrated bud. Over the years, the elm wood has developed an outstanding, deep honey-brown patina and a tactile surface that can only be achieved through a century of careful handling. This type of jar was historically used in the Scandinavian home for storing exclusive dry goods such as tobacco or spices. Today it constitutes a fantastic sculptural and historical element in the modern home, perfect as a unique bonbonnière or as a beautiful still life This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution
