the rectangular top is framed by a border of brown and gold meander frieze (greek-key pattern) in lacquer, enclosing a high-relief scene of exceptional intricacy: polychrome hardstone inlays — jade, calcite and soapstone — depict court figures, peonies and rocky garden landscapes in the manner of chinese literati painting. The apron beneath is lacquered in high-gloss black and decorated with finely traced gilded floral motifs and geometric medallions. Four cabriole legs, lacquered black and enhanced with gilded detailing, lend the piece an elegant silhouette that bridges eastern subject matter with french mid-century cabinetmaking.

it will integrate beautifully into an eclectic or maximalist interior, a chinoiserie-inspired bedroom, a collector's study or any space where decorative arts of the world are celebrated alongside mid-century furniture.

honest condition report: visible wear consistent with its age — chipping at the corners of the top, crazing and lifting of the lacquer surface, and partial loss of gilding on the legs and apron. These patina marks attest to the piece's authenticity and history without compromising its decorative presence.
